Goodwill Outlets In New York

  • Last Updated on

There are two Goodwill Outlets, or Goodwill Bins, in New York, located in Queens and Rochester.

If you’re up for sifting through large blue bins filled with clothes, electronics, toys, and more, hunting for valuable finds at bargain prices, then this is the place for you. At Goodwill Bins, everything is priced by weight, making it a magnet for all kinds of thrifters, resellers, and flippers who can get quite competitive when new bins are rolled out.

For first-time visitors to the Goodwill Outlet, here are a few pointers:

It’s wise to come prepared early in the morning with gloves and a spacious shopping bag, as the Goodwill carts tend to be in high demand. Depending on the outlet, expect some jostling among enthusiastic shoppers—it’s part of the experience. Keep in mind, some shoppers make a living from this.

However, if you prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting a few hours after opening when it’s less hectic. You might get lucky with a fresh bin of merchandise without the hustle and bustle.

If your initial visit doesn’t yield any treasures, remember that new bins of items are rotated daily. Stay persistent, and with a mix of dedication and luck, you’ll hone your thrifting skills and uncover some gems before you know it. Best of luck!

Environment is very competitive and aggressive. Local/frequent shoppers, specifically (ladies with white sacks tied in their waist) are doing what I feel it is unjust/unfair, they grab all they can from the bins for them to sort things on the side, at the end leaving abandoned shopping carts full of the clothing they decided not to take or check out. Do not let them deterred you, come and do your own digging and finds, you may still scored. I personally didn't find anything besides tons of dirty and used mall brands items, it was not my day and it is okay. I do know now that I can source better at my other local thrift stores in my area.

I found lots of great items! Go early and expect to spend at least 45 minutes there. At some point you may have to stand in line and wait about 25 minutes while they change out the bins and introduce new clothing. It goes without saying that a vast majority of the clothing is worn, dirty, and probably won’t be worthy of salvaging but if you’re patient and search thoroughly you can easily snatch up some gems. I got about 7 items which came out to 3 pounds and only paid $6. This is coming from a person who was very skeptical about being able to find anything.

Security guy is nice, i went there in the morning and it was very chaotic. People push through and leave all etiquette and manners behind. Some of them even make their kids stuff bags of clothes for them to resell. I find that the younger people slightly more polite by excusing themselves when clashing into another person. This was my second time going and I pretty much find 3 items/clothing that are of use to me in a span of 2 hours.

The best way to explain this place is cut throat. The grown women shoveling clothes into bags tied around their waists without looking at anything makes it difficult to find something. There are definitely some hidden gems here but overall it’s chaotic.

I've been to GWO stores all over the US and this was by far the most disappointing. It took 20-30 minutes to remove old bins and replace them with new ones and they only rotate once an hour. In the time I was there (about 3 hours), I saw several bins come to the floor that had not be changed out. A small amount of clothing was added to the top of the bins to make them look fuller. For the most part, the customers are pretty generic bins-goers. I did notice there was a clique of shoppers that always stuck together and only shopped the same 6 bins at the beginning of each rotation.

i seriously have no clue why this place allows people to basically act like animals. i went here bc i've always heard of goodwill and have been rly into thrifting. you get there and you can't even touch anything until the people there say go (what are we in a race??) and once you are given "permission' as a paying customer, old ladies and men start grabbing piles of clothing WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING and stuffing it into carts and bags. people push you around and have no regard for anything but making a profit off the thrifted clothes and the weirdos running this place are okay with it since they are literally renting out spaces where people can put their carts and look through the clothes and see which ones have any value. its absolutely disgusting. im telling you, do not go here and give these people your money. they're doing just fine with the money hungry scammers who spend their day there.

First thing I would like to say is if you're new "they" will know. "They" are the people that stay in the store all day in shifts, "they" are the hawks of the store. If this is your first time take a look at my photos and read the rules and take a look at the building layout as well read what I think are some things you should and should not do when at this goodwill.1)READ THE RULES 2)Wear gloves don't be bold(I have found underwear before unless that's your thing)3)You buy by the pound here unless a tag says something else4)Bring your bag empty, they do not give bags and the carts are I think 25cents5)Don't bring children between 6 months and 5 years old they just don't get it and will not stay still6)If possible come with 2 people you can through things faster and catch some good things7)The mornings are not for the weak and also the best pickings8)They will take it to heart when it's the morning time and the bins are rolling out.9)Be comfortable and dressed the down this is not your normal thift stores10) Mind your business, have patience and enjoy

Stuff is put out almost every hour and you pay by weight. It's fun digging through the bins to find something random and cool.

If you like to thrift shop for good deals, you'll find them here. This is where all the local Goodwill locations send their merchandise that doesn't sell or has been sitting around too long (usually after their dollar day color tag sales on Sundays). Additionally, a lot of unsorted donations will go straight here as well when the stores are overloaded. Items here are sold by the pound and it's a different experience than your typical Goodwill. Surprisingly, not everything is total garbage. I've scored quite a few really nice household items, electronics and kids toys that were practically new. It's not unusual to walk out of there with a bag or three full of treasures for literally a couple dollars. Wares (basically everything that doesn't fit into any other category) are the cheapest at 39 cents per pound. Clothes are a little more per pound. All DVDs and video games are basically $1 each. Children's books are .25, paperbacks are .50 and hardcovers $1. They swap out two rows of 6 huge table-sized bins every hour or so, and it can get crazy - especially in the afternoons when people are there full force. Negatives are that the place in general is a little dirty and messy at times. I also think the staff could do a better job of kicking out people that regularly ruin the experience for others by being aggressive and careless with their rummaging to the point it destroys and/or separates merchandise. Watch your fingers when digging or wear decent gloves - there is usually broken glass in some of the bins because of that.

Inexpensive clothing, household items, electronics and furniture. Competition among buyers is fierce. There are two sets of rules here. 1. The rules established by the regular buyers and re-enforced somewhat consistently. 2. The rules established by the store which are sometimes irrational, change almost hourly and are rarely if ever reinforced. The price structure is 99% done by the pound and commodity, with some items (normally furniture priced individually). Pricing will fluctuate between cashiers depending upon your relationship with them. There are items worth hundreds of dollars here selling for a buck.

People go NUTS here. You can find amazing treasures if you can handle scumbags behaving like wild animals when new bins come through. people will literally break things and push others out of the way to be the first at a bin. An absolute lawless wasteland. Also, you'll have to be OK weeding through things like USED UNDERWEAR to shop here. Where is OSHA??
